    Southington/Plainville Area Ponds

Is there anyone on here from Southington, Plainville, Farmington, or Bristol that may know of a small pond in any of these towns where I can take the kids fishing for bullheads, bass and sunfish?
I know of Crescent Lake in Southington but that gets alot of fishing pressure. The same with Slopers pond.
I am looking for a place to take the kids, catch and release, and relax for a few hours without worry of a bunch of others all around.
I know there's alot of small ponds in Southington and Farmington, but with no-one ever around when I drive by its hard to gain permission.

Paderewski pond off Cooke St. in Plainville is a good pond for kids. The entire shore is walkable. I haven't fished there in years but there was always tons of bass and sunfish in there. No boats allowed I believe.

Hamlin's Pond off of Woodford Ave also in Plainville is a decent fishing hole but you'll need at least a canoe to really enjoy it. There is a boat launch but very little walkable shore access. This place is a great spot right about now and a little later in the summer for bass "hunting". Get a little aggressive and go after them in the lilly pads for some fun top-water action.

I bass fish quite a bit in this area and I know a lot of little-known spots too. How old are you kids? How strong are they, is more what I'm asking....If you are willing to hike a little or drag a small boat through the woods a short distance I could guide you to a few very good spots.

Never fished paderewski I take my kids to cresant all the time they love it but never catch much to write home about. There is a spot right behind the plainville police station below the train tracks that holds monster fish. They've come over twice just to ask if we had a license And left right after. Not sure if your really supposed to be there but they were cool with it. I caught a 3lb eel out of there, it's good for catch and release because it's a little dirty anyways.

    Thanks for the info guy's!

AGust... as far as the kids ages, 12 year old twins, 13 y.o sister and a 13 y.o cousin. They wouldn't mind hiking a bit, so walking into a spot (without a canoe or boat) wouldn't be a problem. I would appreciate any info on the spots you mentioned.

Deersniper, I will have to check out the pond by the P.D. in Plainville. Now that I think of it there is a small pond in Southington right off the road, just about 50-75 yards west of the Southington PD. I know that property is owned by Carpenter Realty from Bristol and that fishing there shouldn't be a problem, I used to go there 20 years ago..and will again now that I remembered, and there had been bass, sunfish, and bullheads there.

I have fished but recently over looked Paderewski.. is there an area of the shore thats better to fish from?? Fishing from the south side of the shore near the ball fields never resulted in any fish caught.

I checked out the spot behind the Plainville PD.. looks promising. We liked the spot and the kids spotted the remains of a very large fish, looking down from the bridge it seemed to be a good 2 feet long. It looked like a trout, looking down from 75 feet away but I didn't think any trout would be in there.??
