    Female coyote

I was filling my wood stove before going to bed and I kept hearing
somthing but wasn't sure what it was.I finally opened the slider and
could hear a female coyote howling for a mate. She was about 80-90
yards from my house. This is the begining of their season.

I'll bite...how do you know it was a female? I've never heard of anyone being able to ID the sex of an animal by their vocalizations.
NOBODY EVER SHOT BAMBI....they shot his momma.

A female has a very distinctive howl durring the mating season witch is from the end of Jan. to end of feb.

How do you know it was coyote at all? Maybe it was another fellow predator hunter with his FX3 :-)

The female call is easily distinguished from the male's. The female makes the same call over and over and over again figuring repetition will result in understanding.
The male calls only once figuring if she doesn't understand there are others that will.

PS. Why does Ct. have a season on them. Most states are begging you to shoot them, anytime, anywhere.

Well, it is almost the same in CT, except no dogs hunting at night or during turkey season, that's 10 and 1/2 months, its better than NY where we end the season on March 28th
