In Mass you get two buck tags with your sporting license (Archery, Shotgun, and Muzzleloader). The buck tags are good for all seasons and are the only two you get. Doe permits are available through lottery and are based on Deer management zones. Any leftover doe permits are sold over the counter on a first come first serve basis.

Some Zones issue as little as 250 permits some as high as 12,000. The goal is bolster low population areas but it isn't working. Mass allows internet and telephone check in like Connecticut so it is common for people to shoot deer in one zone and report it in another.

The doe permit website crashed yesterday and Mass DFW says it will be back up sometime tomorrow.
