    Epic Field Hunt - 9/9/17

Got out this morning with DU CT and the Grizz (GrizzlyAdam). Set up an unusually large early season spread this morning before sunrise. 30 decoys. We were working with a local population of 200 geese, give or take a few, that roost on a body of water nearby. We thought about using layouts but the field was bare. Only 1 inch high winter rye sprouts so no cover. Didn't feel like digging in. So we brushed in a hedgerow only 30 yards off the X where they have been landing all week. 6:20 rolled around and the first family group of 8 came in. We got all but two. Then a group of 4 came in. Dropped 'em. Then it was ... who the hell knows... pure chaos. Family group after family group. Then a big group of 50 birds gave us a few passes. Then it got quiet for a bit. We decided to pack it in, which we shouldn't have done at just five birds shy of a three man limit. Two family groups gave us passes as we were packing up. Oh well. None of us are complaint about a three man, two hour long, 40 goose harvest! For local birds, it sure felt like late October migrators!! Our best field hunt to date.

This has been an unbelievable first week of early season.

I and three other guys killed 60 birds today also. Broilers for the freezer. No shots fired.

That's 210lbs of goose meat to date by my calculations. I haven't even seen 40 birds yet...nice job!!

What a great hunt this morning. Everything went perfect, better than expected. The goose gods were smiling on us for sure today. Thanks boys, good times.

That's a pile of geese. Very nicely done.

That's how it's done, leave as few witnesses as possible. Time to do it again.
