The State Duck Stamp committee met last week to judge this year's competition. Out of more than twenty entries, Connecticut artist Chet Reneson's painting of a pair of surf scoters flying in front of the Saybrook breakwall and lighthouse was awarded first place and will appear on this year's Connecticut stamp. Chet is a well known and nationally recognized sporting artist whose paintings have graced the covers of numerous sporting magazines and, among other accolades, has been Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year. The money raised from the purchase of the stamps and the associated art work provide much needed funds for restoration, development, and maintenance of Connecticut wetlands, which benefit not only waterfowl, but numerous non-game species as well. Prints of the painting should be available in the not too distant future. Check the DEEP website for availability. Help support out wetlands!
