Don't know if you guys have seen any yet this year, but I have a resident buck at my house acting up since last Thursday.
I'm up at 4 A.M. every day, so I see my front porch light go on at 5, like clockwork.
It's the same buck 20 feet from my front door as last year. Making a scrape in the same spot on my lawn and using the same Black Gum branch as last year.
He's visited that scrape every morning since. Last night, he shredded the new apple tree I planted last Spring, 50 feet from the Gum tree.
He's really big this year. Left shoulder is injured too. There's a couple of active poachers around here and I hope they didn't zap him.

Think it's a bit early for scrapes and rubs?
Time to invest in a trail cam too.

BTW,
This one is from 2 years ago. He was watching me run the lawn mower. Check out the upside down G1.
Heard he was poached out of a front yard up the street from me. Looks like the one I'm seeing now took his place.

Well, set up the cam in the front yard couple night ago. Here's one of the culprits visiting his branch and scrape below it, and they're coming thru around midnight now. There's a couple more like him and the larger one with the bad leg.
What a tease!

I've seen some scrapes so far but no rubs. They shouldn't be to far off

Bucktails, that is a beauty ! Can you hunt him there in the neighborhood?

That would be tough.
Does and skippers are around during the daylight hours while these guys are mostly nocturnal. And I'm not sure where they bed down.
Besides, Murphy would be involved. Even if you had a good shot, it would drop in the worse possible places.
That said, these have been a no-go for years.Fun to watch and study, but a tease.

Kind of funny, I have deer all around ,but I drive 300 miles to hunt them.

I think I would be asking my neighbors if they want me to regulate the deer problem!
