Back roads open ahead of deer hunting season

ALBANY, NY -- Just in time for Saturday's start of the regular deer-hunting season in the Adirondacks, the state has reopened several popular backcountry roads that had been closed due to budget cuts.

They were opened with the help of local governments and a snowmobile club who took on some of the maintenance and repairs.

The reopened roads include Lily Pond Road in the Lake George Wild Forest; Gay Pond Road in Warren County; and Indian Lake Road and Otter Brook Road in the Moose River Plains in Hamilton County.

The roads are popular with hunters to access remote tracts of state land.

Repairs are also being made to Dacy Clearing Road in Fort Ann, and it's expected to reopen later this fall.

The deer season for rifle hunters begins in the Northern Zone on Saturday
