Well boys and girls, I got my first deer tonight at 5:15. Nice fat Doe came in to about 15 yards and I took her from the tree with my Martin Ridgehunter and a SlickTrick Magnum. Complete pass through heart lung shot. Did my best at field dressing it, seeing as the only teaching I had was from youtube! LOL. I am very excited and am heading to the butcher with her now. I will post pics later.

So tell me, how long until your hands stoped shaking. I remember when I took my first deer I thought I was going to shake right out of the stand. I still get that same feeling but I'll always remember my first. Great Job!

Great Job! The bug has bitten you for life........As far a field dressing, you get better every time you do it. Main thing, rinse the animal out good when you get home with the hose as quick as possible incase of urine or intestinal material on meat. OH ya, don't forget to take the inner tenderloins out before you bring it to the butcher shop. they usually don't take them out. They are on each side of the spine on the inside of the cavity about 10 to 12 inches long and 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter.....They are fantastic.

If you rinse the cavity out make sure that you dry it. Moisture encourages bacteria growth.

Thanks for all of the high fives guys! I was very pumped to get my first deer and am so happy to have gotten it with a bow, such a challenge! I was a bit jacked up after the shot but collected myself as best as possible to climb down the tree safely, lol.

I got settled into the tree at about 4:00 and just chilled out not making any sound or moves at all. At about 5:00 I saw something coming about 60 yards out, I am hunting near a horse trail so I thought i was some folks riding by. I glassed over an saw her coming. I had a large oak between us as she approached 30 yards and I used this opportunity to stand up from my seated positon in my Summit Viper. I already had an arrow notched as I always do when seated. She continued to graze and sniff about and had no clue I was there. I raised my bow vertically and waited for her to come in closer. She was about 15 yards away and turned broad side, but there was a large bolder behind her. I drawed back on the bow, put her sweat spot just above my 20 yard pin and waited for her to walk three more feat. I focused on a spot just above her shoulder because of my angle and let it go off as a surprise to me. I heard a thwak! and then she jumped, did a 180, and ran/bucked 30 yards before flipping over a downed tree. It was over quickly.

I gathered my stuff, I went and tagged her, brought everything back to my truck, then headed back in to dress her. And yes I removed the poop shoot!!

Great feeling, can't wait for another opportunity.
